Сегодня я хочу поговорить о романе Дафны Дюморье «Ребекка», написанный в 1938 году. Это глубокое произведение с трудно определимым жанром. С одной стороны – это классический готический английский роман. С другой – любовный роман. А с третьей – недурная детективная история. Все это смешено в умелых пропорциях и сдобрено удобоваримым текстом, отчего книгу можно проглотить буквально за день.

Этот роман входит в 200 величайших книг, и совсем не зря. Я уже давным-давно не читала нечто такое, чтобы взяло меня за душу настолько сильно. Даже спустя неделю после прочтения, я все еще смакую отдельные моменты, и мне это нравится.

Он очень напоминает «Джейн Эйр» Шарлотты Бронте, с одной стороны. А с другой – в нем есть что-то неуловимое и такое же притягательное, как в «Тринадцатая сказка» Дианы Саттерфилд.

Я уже писала об этих романах, и  мне они чрезвычайно нравятся, отчего было вдвойне приятно пополнить коллекцию еще одним бриллиантом.

Сюжет разворачивается вокруг небогатой девушки, у которой к тому же нет никаких родных, и которая служит компаньоном у богатой американки миссис Ван-Хоппер. Саму девушку поначалу не зовут никак. Позже, когда она скорополительно выходит замуж за богатого англичанина Максимилиана де Винтера, ее так и будут все звать – миссис де Винтер. И все вроде бы хорошо, но вскоре выясняется, что в богатом поместье Мандерли она уже не первая миссис де Винтер. Ее предшественницу звали Ребекка и она утонула при очень загадочных обстоятельствах.

Предыдущую хозяйку поместья все так любили, включая безутешного мистера де Винтера, что молодая девушка начинает ожидаемо чувствовать себя неуютно. Еще больше масла в огонь добавляет миссис Дэнверс – экономка, которая воспитывала Ребекку буквально с колыбели и души в ней не чаяла. Она ненавидит новенькую и прямо в лицо ей это и говорит.

Миссис де Винтер настолько часто сравнивают с предшественницей, и настолько это сравнение ей не льстит(как она считает), что уже в середине повествования скапливается просто огромное напряжение в отношениях молодых супругов. Сюжет, словно тугая леска, аж звенит от накала страстей и каждую секунду ждешь, во что же это выльется.

Про детективную историю я упомянула не зря. Некая тайна витает над именем Ребекки, но что именно произошло – нам расскажут только в самом конце. Но с другой стороны, не хочется, как и в любом другом детективе угадывать, что же именно случилось. Хочется просто читать и получать удовольствие и от слога, и от событий, и от стремительности развязки.

А вот конец мне не понравился. Даже не так. Он мне понравился, с точки зрения логики. Но вот исполнение – мне даже показалось, что я случайно скачала на электронную книгу ознакомительный фрагмент – так быстро все завершилось. Я подглядела окончание книги в интернете и была поражена – в другом переводе совершенно непонятно, что произошло! Тот конец меня бы разочаровал еще больше.

«Мы двинулись к лестнице, Беатриса и я несколько впереди мужчин».

«Она замолчала, так как мы уже входили в столовую, где нас ждали остальные сотрапезники».

Вы что там гонки по коридору устроили? Они же шли позади вас, и вдруг уже сидят и ждут?

«И единственное, что меня утешало после ее смерти, что она действительно умерла легко и быстро. Говорят, что люди не испытывают страданий, когда тонут».

Очень спорное заявление, я бы сказала.

По книге снято два фильма и один сериал. До этого момента я о них ничего не знала и даже мельком не смотрела, поэтому мое впечатление от просмотра было совершенно незамутненным.

И как ни странно, мне понравились все. Особенно меня впечатлил фильм Хичкока – там настолько выразительная миссис Дэнверс, какую больше нигде не показали. Но, поскольку победитель у нас может быть только один, им становится сериал 1997 года выпуска. В нем прекрасно решительно все.

Напоследок, удивительный факт – вскоре после публикации, некоторые люди стали обвинять Дюморье в плагиате. Дескать, она украла сюжет у бразильской писательницы Каролины Набуко. Но время все расставило по местам. И Дафна Дюморье известна во многих странах и любит ее множество людей, а о Набуко мало кто слышал. Отсюда напрашивается вывод – не столь важно, о чем писать, главное, как. Все сюжеты уже более-менее освоены, а вот книг меньше не становится, и все новые авторы набирают популярность на ранее забытых текстах или их фрагментах.
