Сегодня я хочу поговорить о сестрах Бронте. В свое время они публиковались под псевдонимами Каррер(Шарлота), Эллис(Эмили) и Эктон(Энн) Белл. Справедливо полагая, что писатель-мужчина обретет большую популярность, нежели женщина, да еще и дебютантка в тот период времени(да и сейчас, скорее всего ничего не изменилось). Я хочу обозреть один роман от каждой и сравнить их прямо в одной статье. Да и вообще рассказать об этой талантливой семье.

Начнем издалека.

Все началось с Патрика Бронте, ирландца по происхождению, который являлся и писателем и священником одновременно. Что именно он написал, мне не удалось выяснить, однако, очевидно он имел некоторый успех и влияние на своих детей, коих у него было шестеро. Четверо из них так же приложили свои руки и умы к наполнению классической английской литературы. Это Шарлотта, Эмили, Энн и Бренуэлл.

Что касается последнего, то его произведений я так же не смогла отыскать, хотя нашла утверждение, что дескать, он был самым талантливым из детей. Он участвовал в написании самых ранних произведений, вместе со своими сестрами, но эти вещи не были окончены.

Начнем мы, пожалуй с Шарлотты, как самой старшей из сестер, и ее романа «Джейн Эйр».

Впервые я его прочла в возрасте восьми лет, и как сейчас помню было это у бабушки в Крыму. Лето, жара, романтическая книга 19 века, один из столпов английской литературы...

Тогда она мне безумно понравилась, но, как мне казалось, спустя двадцать лет полностью стерлась из моей памяти. Оказалось, что это не так. Удивительно, но я помню все, вплоть до мельчайших подробностей повествования, хотя обычно забываю впервые прочитанную книгу спустя уже год-два. Есть лишь одна деталь, которая ускользнула от меня - это любовь Сент-Джона к мисс Оливер. Но она настолько незначительна, что ее только в одном фильме и показали.

Кстати, только после прочтения книги я поняла значение слова Сент-Джон. Это же не имя. Это приставка, означающая святой или преподобный - он же священник. Но у нас почему-то перевели так.

Что касается сюжета, то тут все просто. Наша героиня - Джен Эйр. Она дочь пастора сельской церкви и мисс Рид. Они умерли еще когда она была совсем малышкой и брат ее матери взял ее к себе в дом. Но к несчастью, вскоре скончался сам. В итоге получилось так, что Джен жила на правах бедной нелюбимой родственницы в семье миссис Рид и ее троих детей. Больше всех ее ненавидел Джон - старший сын тети, отчего случались постоянные конфликты. В конце концов, тетя отсылает племянницу в Ловуд, с намерением больше никогда о ней не слышать.

Условия жизни в школе ужасны, да еще и случается эпидемия тифа, но Джен выживает. Она проучилась там шесть лет и еще два года проработала, пока школу не покинула мисс Темпль - единственный человек, к которому Джен была привязана. Поэтому она дает объявление в газету и вскоре уезжает работать гувернанткой в Торнфильд холл.

Здесь она обучает маленькую Адель, а заодно и влюбляется в хозяина - мистера Эдварда Рочестера. Но он на нее, казалось бы не обращает внимания и во всю флиртует с Бланш Ингрем - первой красавицей округи.
