Рассказ служанки

Сегодня я хочу немного поговорить о романе Маргарет Этвуд «Рассказ служанки». Это первый роман за много лет, который я прочла в течении одних суток – так он мне понравился.

Автор родилась в Канаде, где проживает до сих пор, и относится к наиболее известным писателям, пишущим на английском языке. Ее романы много раз выдвигались на Букеровскую премию, но получил ее только один – «Слепой убийца», до которого я тоже доберусь.

«Рассказ служанки» это антиутопия. Это описание одного из вариантов мира будущего, со слов очевидицы событий. Фредова, так ее зовут. Потому, что хозяин ее Фред.

Настоящее имя героини так и не раскрывается до конца книги(несмотря на то, что все время фигурирует в рецензиях других авторов. Не верьте им, эти люди не читали книгу), а вот личность  ее хозяина впоследствии установить удалось. Это Фред Уотерфорд.

Книга описывает нам мир, где женщины низвергнуты со всех социальных ступеней и могут занимать только положение жены, или служанки.  А в обществах победнее, эти два понятия и вовсе являются одним целым.

Жена – это женщина, состоящая при командоре. Служанка же, это женщина, прошедшая подготовку в специальном учреждении. Она приходит в дом с единственной целью – родить ребенка. Она не имеет права задавать вопросы, ходить куда-либо, кроме как за покупками, в сопровождении второй такой же девушки, и носить что-нибудь, кроме красного. Ей нельзя шить, вязать, в ее комнате даже нет люстры, чтобы она не покончила жизнь самоубийством. Ее держат пленницей в доме, до тех пор, пока она не родит. Она ничего не знает о судьбе своего мужа и ребенка, которых у нее отняли при попытке к бегству, когда начался передел власти.

Стиль повествования весьма необычен и к нему нужно привыкнуть. Сама же история настолько затягивает, что мне было невероятно трудно оторваться от текста. Единственный перерыв я сделала только потому что у меня разрядилась электронная книга(о как не совершенны эти устройства!).

Вот вам немного текста:

«Я думаю, вот так и выглядит Господь: как яйцо. Возможно, на луне жизнь не на поверхности, а внутри.

Яйцо сияет будто в нем своя энергия. Острейшее блаженство – смотреть на яйцо.

Солнце прячется, и яйцо блекнет. Я вынимаю яйцо из рюмки и минуту ощупываю. Оно теплое. Женщины носили яйца между грудями – высиживали. Наверное, приятно. Минималистская жизнь. Блаженство – яйцо».

Семь раз слово яйцо повторяется в этих абзацах. Там есть еще три, точно такие же, что добавляет повторений еще на пять, но я не стану вас дольше мучить.

За мной водится такой грешок – я повторяю слова, и об этом мне все время пытаются напоминать окружающие из тех, кто знаком с моим текстом. Я соглашаюсь, исправляюсь и делаю новые ошибки. А вот кто-то вообще не парится. И таких примеров в мировой литературе миллионы.

Ну и напоследок.

Роман был запрещен в штате Техас за то, что она сексуально откровенна и оскорбительна для христиан. Ну, этим грех было не возмутиться, ибо в книге все делается под эгидой истовой веры в Бога. Как известно, все самые жестокие вещи всегда происходили и происходят во славу Всевышнего. Так и тут.

Что касается фильма, то в нем достаточное количество серьезных отступлений, хотя его сюжет старается идти вровень с книжным. Самыми грубыми вольностями я считаю убийство мужа главной героини на границе, убийство героиней командора, ее слишком большая раскрепощенность, чего просто не могло быть после такой промывки мозгов, что она прошла и то, что ей все-таки дали имя. Кейт. А в нашем переводе ее и вовсе называют подфредой. Фредова, на мой взгляд, гораздо лучше.

Мой вердикт таков – книга великолепна и прочесть ее должен каждый. Она короткая, легкая и очень увлекательная.
