Само повествование сильно затянуто - много политики, которая местами не сильно интересна. Да, есть любовная линия - между Блэксорном и переводчицей Торанаги и женой Бунтаро(этот товарищ классно стреляет из лука, но об этом нам скажут один раз - когда Бунтаро красуется перед женой, чтобы потом избить ее) Марико-сан. Но она настолько вялая, что все время хотелось кричать - Не верю! Они просто спят вместе, почему сразу великая любовь? Что за трагедия у Блэксорна после ее смерти? Вы просто спали вместе, але! Про любовь там полслова - ах, Анджин-сан, ох, Марико-сан... И это уже после того, как они начали спать вместе. А до этого они просто присутствовали вместе на общих собраниях - Марико переводила Блэксорну.

Зато радуют вставки совершенно простонародного или откровенно ругательного текста - это разбавляет порой унылое повествование:

«-Держись на левом галсе! Пусть она идет прямо, и оставайся так!

Потом тот крикнул по-испански:

-Твой рот у дьявола в заду, англичанин!

-Твоя мать побывала там раньше!».

Как это мило, не правда ли?

«Если здесь паписты и эти варвары с их ужасными нравами, я бы не дал за наши жизни и п...ду старой проститутки».

А это еще лучше. И точечки вместо букв я поставила - в романе никто вам ничего замазывать не будет.

И раз уж речь зашла о тексте, то о нем и продолжим. Обычно я выписываю несколько фраз - которые бросаются мне в глаза, или являются довольно спорными. Как это выглядит? У меня электронная книжка - и я помещаю лист бумаги между нею и обложкой. Когда мне нужно, я разворачиваю этот лист(обычно он формата А4), и записываю своей рукой цитату, и свой комментарий, чтобы потом сразу вспомнить, что мне не понравилось. На книгу обычно уходит две-три цитаты. А тут... Четыре листа. И это после первого прочтения. Я думаю, что после второго я бы еще столько же нашла.

Разговор двух японцев - генерала Хиро-Мацу и дайме Ябу Касиги:

«Хиро-Мацу посмотрел на облако дыма, которое все еще поднималось над погребальным костром.

-Сколько пиратов осталось?

-Десять, сэр, включая их вожака...».

Какой еще «сэр»? похоже, что с редакторами в Америке все так же плохо, как и у нас.

«-Хорошо, - сказал Торанага. - Давайте помочимся в знак заключения договора...

Торанага отвел в сторону кимоно и набедренную повязку. Ябу сделал то же. Они вместе помочились и смешали свою мочу, следя, как она летит в садик под ними».

О, боже! Как это прекрасно...

«-Он умен, очень много знает о католицизме. Разве большинство англичан не католики в своей душе? Ответ - да, если их король или королева католики, и нет, если он или она протестанты.

Англичане очень безразличны в вопросах религии. Они фанатично настроены против нас в данный момент, но это не из-за Армады ли? Может быть, Блэксорн может быть обращен в нашу религию. Это было бы идеальным решением вопроса, к славе Божьей, и спасло бы его еретическую душу от проклятия, к которому он идет».

Мы самые верующие из всех верующих, а все остальные моральные калеки, уроды и грешники - как это типично для христианства. Ненависть к непохожим на тебя людям сочится из каждого слова, где бы он ни было написано или сказано.

«Вы не можете вести себя в Японии как в протекторате инков, населенном дикарями из джунглей, у которых не было ни истории, ни культуры».

Есть у меня подруга - она из Гватемалы, что в Латинской Америке. Ее предки были не инки, а майя, но я не к этому. Думаю, что она бы насчет культуры поспорила.

Я себе представляю этот метод лечения при обострении панкреатита - когда тебя из без того несет...

Кентавр? Серьезно? И мчался он по чему? По пристани или по лошади? Где редактор?
